President Masoud Pezeshkian has discussed the latest regional developments with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, saying Iran will firmly defend its territorial integrity and sustainable peace.
During a phone conversation on Friday, Pezeshkian said Iran has explained to neighboring countries that targeting US military bases is a purely defensive action aimed at protecting the country and its people.
The President described the treacherous assassination of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei as an act contrary to all legal norms and international regulations.
“The oppressors, through the blind and wretched use of power, are attempting to impose their will upon nations, but the massive and heroic presence of the Iranian people in support of their system and country has proven that these aggressions only strengthen the resolve of our nation to defend the country’s sovereignty,” he said.
The president emphasized that Tehran expects Moscow to support the legitimate rights of the Iranian nation against these aggressions by utilizing its international capabilities.
He also firmly rejected the claims made regarding an attack against the Republic of Azerbaijan, describing these rumors as a conspiracy by enemies to damage the brotherly relations between neighboring countries.
Putin, for his part, extended his condolences for the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, stressing the need for regional stability, referring to his continuous contacts with the leaders of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
The presidents of the two countries also agreed that the coordination between Tehran and Moscow should continue strongly through various diplomatic and security channels.
